Send Pasadena-Area Students Back to School with Necessary Supplies

School funding is becoming more and more limited, thus more of the burden of providing even basic school supplies for students is shifting to teachers and families. It is well known that many teachers easily spend $500-$1000 or more each year on school supplies for their classrooms - in addition to the items that families are asked to provide at the beginning of the school year.

Nationally, More than 50 percent of students attending public schools are considered "working poor" or living in poverty. This number is not quite as high here in our community, but we do have many families who cannot afford to buy school supplies and backpacks for their children. We are working to eliminate this small barrier that could possibly prevent students from achieving their full academic potential.

The Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated would like to ensure that 250 students return to school in the Fall with new backpacks filled with school supplies. Your tax-deductible donation will help us reach our goal.
